This beer was hand crafted with some fine ingredients to make a smooth yet still complex beer, it has real whole vanilla beans as well. It features a fine aroma with hints of chocolate, vanilla, toffee, and a bit of bourbon. The beer has a nice balanced roasted malt profile that is developed from 6 different specialty malts and finishes with a nice subtle hint of vanilla on the back end. This beer was brewed for the Movember charity event and is a great beer for the cooling fall weather.

Movembeer

For the past few years I’ve been participating in a worldwide charity event called Movember. This charity raises money to help raise awareness and find a cure for prostate and testicular cancer. During the month of Movember we all grow mustaches and try to raise money for our team to donate. I became involved in this event shortly after finding out about my grandfather being diagnosed with cancer. I also made a commitment to grow it for a whole year instead of just a month. During this time I have developed quite some interesting handlebar, and found that it was a great conversation started and I could continue to raise awareness year round.

This year has been an especially rewarding year because my father decided to participate as well. He has been rocking a Mo since 1976, and this was the first time he shaved it since then. In honor of my father and grandfather, and all that are involved in the Movember event. I decided to make a beer, and have a portion of the proceeds go to the charity. After much deliberation on what type of beer to make, it finally dawned on me that there was no better source then to ask my dad what I should brew. His answer…. A nice smooth porter, possibly with some vanilla beans, with a good body.

This is a perfect fall beer and goes for a great cause. I hope you get to enjoy this beer, as I have a suspension it won’t last long.

Black Cavern Saison

  • Style: Cocoa saison with chili’s and green apples
  • ABV: 7.3
  • IBU: 12.3

This ended up being a fun little experiment of a beer. We decided to make a chocolate saison and added some thai and anahiem chili’s to the fermentation to give it a little bit of a kick on the back end. We also decided to put a generous amount of green apples to add a wonderful fresh apple aroma to the beer. This is a highly complex beer with many different flavors that come out of the course of drinking it. As it warms up in the glass you get more pronounced chili, roast, and smoke flavors.

Pluot Wit

  • Style: Belgian Wit
  • ABV: 6.3
  • IBU: 13.4

At the BC we have a rotating Belgian Wit, and this is the second one in our series. We add various fruit(s) to the brewing process, depending on what is in season. In this version we have a full bodied wheat beer, with a slight sweetness from the Pluots that are added. We use fresh organic Pluot’s that are pitted, cut, and mashed up by hand to add a lovely aroma, slight creaminess and sweetness to the beer. We really enjoy using the hybrid fruits in our beer.
